Mounting Siemens Phone on Linux

Sorry for the lack of updates for a while, I’ve been busy and haven’t really had any time on my computer.

This morning my new data cable for my mobile phone, a Siemens AX72, arrived in the post, I brought this one from eBay.co.uk. This will be the third cable I have to get my phone to connect to my computer.
The other two cables didn’t work, the first was from a google search and was a serial cable. The second cable came from amazon and was USB, but this one didn’t work either!

I plugged the cable into my USB hub and the green light lit up, which was more than the last cable did, I checked dmesg and I’ve got some communication going on
usb 1-1.1: new full speed USB device using address 3
drivers/usb/serial/usb-serial.c: USB Serial support registered for Generic
drivers/usb/core/usb.c: registered new driver usbserial
drivers/usb/serial/usb-serial.c: USB Serial Driver core v2.0
drivers/usb/serial/usb-serial.c: USB Serial support registered for PL-2303
pl2303 1-1.1:1.0: PL-2303 converter detected
usb 1-1.1: PL-2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0 (or usb/tts/0 for devfs)
drivers/usb/core/usb.c: registered new driver pl2303
drivers/usb/serial/pl2303.c: Prolific PL2303 USB to serial adaptor driver v0.10
Yes, now I just have to mount the phone!

The Siemens website has changed, and I can’t find there Mobile phone manager for Linux that I’m sure I have downloaded.

After googling around all morning I’ve found several good looking pieces of software.

The first site I came across was TuxMobil, it had a link to SieFS, I managed to install Fuse with no problems, but when it came to installing SieFS I had problems:

Damn! Back to Google!

Wammu looks promising!

I installed Gammu as a shared library as required by python-gammu, no problem!
# python setup.py build
running build
running build_ext
Package gammu not found, adding /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig to pkg-config search path
ERROR: Package gammu is too old!
You need version 1.9.20, but 1.9.19 is installed

You need installed gammu as shared library and enable pkg-config to find it.

This is done by invoking make installshared in gammu sources.
Right, okay, the latest version of gammu that I could find was 1.9.19, so I downloaded version 0.18 of python-gammu
# python setup.py build
running build
running build_ext
Package gammu not found, adding /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig to pkg-config search path
error: invalid Python installation: unable to open /usr/lib/python2.3/config/Makefile (No such file or directory)
Okay, now my python installation is the problem! The only problem is that I can’t remember how I installed python, was is from source, RPM, or Rpmdrake (RPM package management software for Mandrake).
Edit: It was from Rpmdrake!

Ive got Gammu installed, Wammu is just the GUI, so I’ll just reinstall Gammu then use it from the command line!

If anyone can help me with this, or if you have any other recommendations for other pieces of software, comments are open!

I’ll post again tomorrow about what has happened, and if Moto4Lin will work, as I installed that last year for my sisters phone.

Yeah Its Snowing!!!

At least I think it is still snow!

Its not settling, but there is still snow on the cars that I can see out of my bedroom window.

There is also snow on the grass, and on odd little patches of pavement

I’ve not got much to say today!
Bye

Windy!!

Boy was it windy today!

Unfortunately in work one of the main doors that the lorries are unloaded through was broken, it was broken by the wind some time last week.
This meant that the wind was coming through the warehouse through the grocery corridor and onto the shop floor.

In the corridor we have a rubbish cage (also know as: comp; roll-cage) where we put the cardboard from the shop floor before putting it into the compactor.
The wind was so strong that it was pushing against the cardboard in the cage and it was rolling onto the shop floor.

Later on in the evening the other main door was closed, but it got stuck down, the motor that winds it up burnt out or something like that!
I came back down after my break and the door was open, it had been fixed!
Usually it takes one to two days for someone to come out to fix the doors, but today someone came out and had fixed it within half an hour!

A Quiet Car

Ok, that is a bit of a weird title, but it does have a bit of a story to go with it, read on to hear a sad tale about a noisy little car…
Since not long after getting my car a loud noise started up.
My dad let one of his work mates have a listen to the noise and he said that it could be a wheel bearing.

So, the other day dad jacked up each front corner of the car and let the engine turn the wheel, the noise was coming from the left side.

On Saturday we went to the Renault dealers on Whitby Road and brought a new wheel bearing for £41.51

Dad fitted it that Saturday while I was working

I’m glad to say that my car is nice and quiet, the only sound I can hear is the tyres on the road, and when doing 70mph down the motorway the wind rushing past the car!

The silence is almost deafening!

I think that is it!
Till next time
Bye for now!

12 days later!

It is my sisters 19th birthday today, and this is the first post since I posted one on New Years!

So then, what has been happening in the last 12 days? Nothing much.
Today is the first day back after a four day break. I had Tuesday and Wednesday off as holiday, and I had Thursday off because I worked Sunday, and Monday is my usual day off anyway.

Umm, what else….
A happy birthday must go out to Tom, someone I know on MSN who lives in Australia, so happy 15th (? or is it 14th?) birthday.

Until next time,
See you!

Happy New Year

Happy new year everyone, and hope this year brings something new for you!

Well, here it is, yet another year finished, and a new one starting.
Before the new year resolutions, what did I get up to this new years night.
Mum and my sister went out, and my dad stayed in, and I invited my girlfriend over to stay for the night.
At midnight we looked out of the front windows and watched the fireworks.

A quick look at last years resolutions.
The only resolution that I stuck to was item number 5, learn to drive, I did and I am driving
I am trying my best with item number 1, and am turning up on time more than late!
As for item numbers 2 and 3, I have started more projects, and have yet to finish any of them!
I am (trying to) update my website and blog more often, item number 4
And item number 6 went straight out of the window! Thank you Scott for pointing that out at every opportunity!

Now then, lets get on with this years!

 1. Again, finish any projects I start, and complete any that I have started
 2. Update my website and blog more often

There is a couple more, but they are something that I would like to happen this year, but I don’t want to set them in stone. Not only that, but they will come back to haunt me, thank you Scott!

You will hear more from me this year.
Until then, Happy New Year

Christmas Monday!

I’ve just got to finish of my sister, and get something for my dad and that’s it.
The only thing that would be left to do is wrap the presents!

What have I been doing since the last post?
Working mainly!

I had Sunday off, but that was because it was granddads 86th birthday on Saturday, and me, dad, and sister, and granddad (obviously) and auntie Sue went to the White Horse on the A38 just past Thornbury for a meal.
On Sunday morning me and dad went around the shops. Which was when I finished mums presents.

On Monday I worked. Luckily it was only in the morning, so I could still go out in the evening with my girlfriend.

For the next three of four days, until Friday, or Saturday, I will be working close to 12 hours a day!
Tomorrow (Wednesday) I’ll be doing a bit of Christmas shopping in the morning, so I wont be working 12 hours, but I will be working longer than my usual eight hours!

In the home shopping office someone has written out the twelve days of Christmas song, but changed it slightly!
Each verse starts with: On the n’th day of Christmas ASDA House sent to me….

I’ll try to get a copy of it and post it soon.
As for my Christmas theme…I wont be able to do the twelve days of Christmas header image after all, mainly due to the fact that I haven’t been able to have any time to make a start on them.
If I can manage to do at least the first three or four, then I will be able to make them up a couple of days in advance. But I cannot see myself being able to find the time to do even one!

As for the rest of the Christmas theme, I will put up the additional images, but not the banner, as I haven’t complete it yet.

I wonder what a couple of my New Year Resolutions will be….

Merry Christmas every one

Finally Started Xmas Shopping!

Hooray!!!

Well okay, I went around the mall in Cribbs Causeway with my mum in the afternoon, and I brought a couple of presents for my girlfriend (read: *special* friend)

I was also picking up a couple of ideas for what to buy everyone else.
I think I have I know what to buy now. Its just a case of when I’m going to be able to have the time to do the shopping!
This morning, just before work!

In other news, I will get the images done for the Christmas theme, again I just need to find the time!

Gotta go shopping now
Bye for now!

Christmas is getting ever nearer!

Its true, honest!

I had my Christmas meal at work today. It’s free, and the managers bring the food over to your table.
I had my first chestnuts, they were mixed up with the over cooked sprouts!
For afters I had Christmas pudding with, I think, cream, or it could of been brandy sauce!
Then they came round with a tray of mince pies, from the extra special range, of course!

I didn’t do any shopping on Monday, as my sister was working, and I still don’t have a clue as to what to get anyone for Christmas!

On a brighter note, I’ve nearly completed the Christmas theme, I just need to finish the images.
Until then, I have updated the style, so you can all have a look at the new Christmas colours
I also have an idea for something special over the twelve days of Christmas 😉

Bye for now
